Two arrested over motorway death

Two people were arrested for serious driving offences after a 29-year-old man died and two people were injured in a crash on a motorway in Oxfordshire.

A Ford Transit van and a Ford Fiesta car collided on the M40, between junctions seven and six, on Saturday.

The man who died was from Crowborough, East Sussex, and was a passenger in the Fiesta. The male driver and a female passenger were airlifted to hospital.

A 24-year-old man and a 25-year-old woman in the van were arrested.

Witness appeal

The 24-year-old, of no fixed address, was held on suspicion of death by dangerous driving, drink driving, failing to stop, driving while disqualified and possession of class A drugs.

He remains in police custody.

The 25-year-old woman, from Oxford, was arrested on suspicion of drink driving, failing to stop and theft.

She suffered minor leg injuries in the crash and was taken to hospital.

The man and woman who were airlifted to hospital are in a serious but stable condition, police said.

Sgt Jack Hawkins said: "I am appealing to anyone who witnessed the collision to come forward as their information may prove vital to our inquiries."
