Woman dies after van door crash

An elderly pedestrian died after being knocked down when the door of a passing van swung open and struck her.

The 80-year-old woman, whose name has not been released, was walking in High Street, Goring, Oxfordshire, when the collision happened on Friday morning.

As a van, marked with the company details TW Ludgate & Son, passed her the rear near-side door swung open before striking her, police said.

She was taken to the Royal Berkshire Hospital in Reading, where she died.

The incident happened at about 1150 BST.

Sgt Bill Sykes, of Thames Valley Police, said: "I am keen to speak to any one who saw this van, registration J3 TWL, prior to the collision."

The 55-year-old driver was arrested in connection with the incident and has been released on bail until 12 August.
