Election polls shut across county

Seats will be decided in three local authorities in Oxfordshire

Polls have closed across Oxfordshire in the English and Welsh local elections.

Residents in three authorities across the county are deciding who will represent them on their local council.

One third of the seats in Cherwell and West Oxfordshire are being decided while Oxford is electing half of the keenly contested city council.

Meanwhile Henley could lose its MP of seven years if Boris Johnson is elected mayor of London over Labour rival Ken Livingstone and Lib Dem Brian Paddick.

The others standing in London are Richard Barnbrook of the BNP; Gerard Batten of the UK Independence Party; Sian Berry of the Green Party; Alan Craig of Christian Choice; the Left List's Lindsey German; independent Winston McKenzie; and Matt O'Connor for the English Democrats.

Across England and Wales about 4,000 seats on 159 councils are being contested.

Polls opened at 0700 BST and closed at 2200 BST.
