Hundreds of soldiers returning home from a six-month tour of duty in Iraq are to receive a heroes' welcome when they march through an Oxfordshire town.
Soldiers with 3 Logistic Support Regiment of the Royal Logistic Corps will march through Abingdon to Dalton Barracks on Thursday afternoon.
They will parade from the fire station in Ock Street to the Market Place.
The Mayor, Councillor Lorraine Oates, will then present a contingent from the Army event with the Iraq medal.
After the medals have been bestowed, the regiment will then march, via the High Street and West St Helen Street, to St Helen's Church for a service of thanksgiving at 1330 GMT.
Mrs Oates said: "I am delighted that 3 Logistic Support Regiment are parading through Abingdon following their tour of duty in Iraq.
"As Abingdonians will be aware, the town's appreciation and a mark of our close bond with the 3rd and 4th Logistics Corps was recognised in July 2006 with the great honour of the granting of the Freedom of the Town.
"I am very pleased to announce that the town is asking the Royal Logistics Corps to exercise this freedom with a parade for both regiments in the new year."
