Women firefighters to star in DVD
Women firefighters in Oxfordshire are to become stars of the small screen as they take part in the filming of a new educational DVD.

An all-female team from the Oxfordshire County Council Fire and Rescue Service will be filmed during a drill.

The DVD, produced by national charity Christian Aid, aims to promote gender equality and encourage UK children to join the profession.

It comes just months after women were targeted in a recruitment drive.

The Oxfordshire brigade ran a week-long course for females and people from ethnic minorities in a bid to encourage more to sign up.

The DVD, due to be filmed on Friday, will be shown to youngsters aged 11 to 14 to highlight that women have the same opportunities as men in the UK and Ireland.

Chief fire officer John Parry said: "I hope this will encourage more children to think about the fire service as a career for the future."
