A young teacher collapsed and died during a rugby match in Oxfordshire.

Andrew Dawson, 27, is thought to have suffered a heart attack during a match on Saturday between Oxford Harlequins 2nd XV and High Wycombe 2nd XV.

It is understood players tried to resuscitate the geography teacher from Headington before paramedics arrived.

Mr Dawson, a teacher at Matthew Arnold School, in Cumnor Hill, was taken to the John Radcliffe Hospital, in Oxford, where he was pronounced dead.

A spokesman for Thames Valley Police said they had investigated the death but there were no suspicious circumstances.

The case has been passed to the Oxfordshire Coroner's office.
