First county school wind turbine
Wind turbine
The wind turbine will generate 12,000kWh of electricity
An Oxfordshire school hopes to save up to £1,200 a year on fuel bills with the installation of a 15m wind turbine.

Berinsfield Community Primary School, near Abingdon, will become the first school in the county to have its own wind turbine.

The initiative, which will generate 12,000kWh of electricity, has been half funded by South Oxfordshire District Council along with a Clear Skies grant.

Conservative MP Boris Johnson is set to unveil the turbine on Friday.

John Howell, Berinsfield's county councillor, said: "This is a feather in the cap for Berinsfield and a first for Oxfordshire.

"I hope other schools will learn from Berinsfield's experience. At a time when many school budgets are under pressure there are savings to be made here."
