An environmentalist from Oxford is travelling to a climate change rally in London by kayak and on foot, to avoid emitting carbon en-route.

Nat Spring aims to kayak from Oxford to Teddington, London, overnight and on Friday, before walking the last part of the journey.

He is due to get to Trafalgar Square on Saturday to attend a protest organised by coalition group Stop Climate Chaos.

Mr Spring said he hoped to raise awareness of climate change issues.

Travel without cars

Mr Spring, who is completing the trip on his own, told BBC News: "I like a bit of a challenge.

"The idea is to raise awareness of the event and show how people can travel without using their cars."

The Stop Climate Chaos march is the first in a series of events calling on world leaders to help stop climate change.

Mr Spring said: "Public awareness is increasing and hopefully people will make changes to the way they live and encourage the government to take a lead in tackling climate change issues internationally. "

In 2004, Mr Spring rowed across the Atlantic to raise money for the Katherine House hospice in Adderbury, near Banbury, Oxfordshire.
