The Museum of Oxford is free to the public for the next six months as part of a trial, the council has announced.
The museum is located in Oxford's historic town hall
The attraction, located in St Aldates, is hoping "to increase visitor numbers, attract a more diverse audience and encourage repeat visits".
Councillor Alan Armitage said locals "will be able to take advantage of our special exhibitions and events throughout the year."
The museum traces the city's history back to prehistoric times.
