Sir Ian becomes gay pride patron

Sir Ian McKellen
Sir Ian McKellen hopes to take time out of his busy schedule to attend
Film star Sir Ian McKellen has agreed to become a patron for Oxford's musical festival celebrating gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender culture.

Last year Oxford Pride's day, backed by Oxford Lesbian and Gay Community Centre, attracted hundreds of people.

"I send my love to all members of Oxford Pride, their sponsors and supporters, of which I am proud to be one," said Sir Ian.

This year's carnival at Oxpens Field with live acts will be held on 15 July.

Sir Ian added: "Onlookers can be impressed by our confidence and determination to be ourselves and gay people, of whatever age, can be comforted by the occasion to take the first steps towards coming out and leaving the closet forever behind."
