Writer tops Oxfordshire honours
Novelist Jeanette Winterson has been honoured with an OBE in the Queen's New Year Honours list.

The acclaimed writer, based in Oxfordshire, received the award for services to literature.

She is best known for her debut novel Oranges Are Not The Only Fruit, which tells the story of a lesbian affair.

In science, Oxford University Professor John Ball is to be knighted while Professor Averil Millicent Cameron has been made an OBE.

Ashes hero and former Oxfordshire cricketer Andrew Strauss was made an MBE along with local athlete Eileen Kear.
