New sculpture to mark town revamp
Abingdon A
The sculpture was created by artists Philip Bews and Diane Gorvin
A specially commissioned sculpture is being unveiled to mark the redevelopment of Abingdon town centre.

At a ceremony on Friday, The Lord Lieutenant of Oxfordshire will unveil the artwork known as the Abingdon A.

The event celebrates the finishing of Neave Mews - a development of 33 new houses as well as 15 apartments, a shop, office block and court yard.

During the construction a number of historical finds were uncovered, including 26 civil war skeletons.

The sculpture which is set in the courtyard of the Neave Mews was created from Portland stone by artists Philip Bews and Diane Gorvin.

It consists of two limestone shapes rising to create a letter A, with the flowing lines of the space between them representing the river Thames.
