Man killed in parachute accident
A soldier has been killed during a parachute jump after landing in a street near an RAF airfield.

The victim, who has not yet been named, came down in Akerman Street, Weston-on-the-Green, Oxfordshire.

Eyewitness reports suggest the man's parachute did not fully open in what is thought to have been an exercise.

The Health and Safety Executive is liaising with Thames Valley Police over the incident, which they are not treating as suspicious.

A Ministry of Defence spokesman said: "It is with deep regret that the Ministry of Defence can confirm that a British soldier has sadly died from injuries sustained in a parachute incident at Weston-on-the-Green."

He said the man's next-of-kin were being informed.
