Cat chase dog rescued from drain
A Jack Russell terrier was released by firefighters after becoming stuck in a drainage pipe as he was chasing a cat.

Fire crews dug four feet below ground to reach the pipe in which five-year-old Dennis had become trapped in East Hagbourne in Oxfordshire.

With the owners of the dog watching on Monday, they broke the pipe open to release him after an hour-long ordeal.

Dennis' owner, Linda Lawson, 40, said he had followed Milly, the family's other Jack Russell, after the cat.

Grinning cat

She said: "They saw a cat from the local farmhouse and chased it.

"They chased it down a pipe and I think the cat managed to come out the other end.

"Because it is tapered, Dennis is quite portly and got wedged but the other one came out."

Mrs Lawson added that the cat which had started it all watched as the dog was freed.

"It was perched on a roof, almost grinning as all this unfolded," she said.
