Students rally over deportation
Around 150 pupils have staged a rally in support of a Syrian student who says she could face torture, imprisonment or death if deported back to her country.

The Home office have told 15-year-old Lorin Sulaimanis she must leave England and her case has outraged her fellow pupils at Mayfield School in Hampshire.

The students gathered on Saturday outside Portsmouth Guildhall.

They are hoping to put pressure on the government to keep the teenager, her mother and her sister, in the country.

Constant persecution

The family fled Syria two years ago after their mother was imprisoned and tortured.

They are Kurds who, according to Amnesty International, have no civil rights and have suffered constant persecution by the Syrian authorities.

In a statement, the Home Office said: "We are committed to the protection of genuine refugees who seek asylum in the UK."
