Fire destroys former college
Yatscombe Hall
The fire at the derelict building is being treated as suspicious
A fire has destroyed a former college in Oxford.

Eight fire engines were called to Yatscombe Hall on Foxcombe Road in Boars Hill just after 0600 GMT on Tuesday.

The fire at the Victorian mansion is being treated as suspicious and police have arrested a 39-year-old man.

No-one was injured - but the derelict buildings have been badly damaged.

A Thames Valley Police spokesman said the 18-acre site had been taken over by squatters, and raves have also taken place there.

A spokesman for Oxfordshire Fire and Rescue Service said firefighters would probably remain at the scene until Wednesday.

He said they had not been able to search the remains of the building, and could not rule out that someone could be inside.
