An ambulance carrying a shooting victim was surrounded by a group of men shouting abuse when it got to hospital, a court has heard.

Birmingham Crown Court was told Bernard Langton, 27, was shot after a fight in a Nottingham bar in May 2009.

The crowd blocked the vehicle and delayed treatment, the court was told.

Anthony Tirado, 25, and Dion Griffin, 35, both of Top Valley, Nottingham, and David Stokes, 27, of Collindale Road, Birmingham, all deny murder.

Mr Langton was taken to the Queen's Medical Centre after he had been shot in the back at the Paris nightclub in the Lace Market.

Gunman allegation

The jury was told the group of men got to the hospital ahead of the ambulance and surrounded it, shouting: "Hope you are dead" and "If he comes out we will finish him".

Mr Langton, who had stabbed another man after being hit over the head with a bottle at the nightclub, was pronounced dead shortly after getting into the hospital.

The prosecution claimed Mr Tirado, of Ballerat Crescent, was the gunman who fired the shot, while Mr Griffin, from Hogan Gardens, and Mr Stokes were part of the crowd at the hospital.

A fourth defendant, 33-year-old Andrew Pleasance, of Neston Drive, Cinderhill, Nottingham, denies assisting an offender following the killing.
