Legionella found in flats' water

Traces of legionella bacteria have been found in the water supply to residential flats in Nottinghamshire.

Residents at Willingham Court, on the Oak Tree Lane Estate, Mansfield, have been notified and the affected shower head has been replaced.

The district council said no-one was put at risk.

In October a swimming pool at the Water Meadows leisure complex in Mansfield was closed after the organism was found during testing of the showers.

'Action taken immediately'

The bacteria can cause dangerous respiratory problems.

Ajman Ali, corporate director of housing, property and operational services at the district council, said: "We carry out regular tests and the fact that traces of the legionella bacteria were found is a consequence of good control measures that we have in place.

"Action to rectify the fault was taken immediately and no members of the public are at risk.

"The welfare of our tenants and residents is paramount. We informed other residents in the complex as soon as possible and any residents with concerns are advised to contact their local area housing office."
