Sexual assault witnesses sought

A woman in her 20s has been sexually assaulted in a Nottinghamshire town.

She was walking along Yorke Street at about 0330 GMT on Sunday when she was approached by a man.

She tried to walk away along a path leading towards Mainbright Walk but he followed her and subjected her to a serious sexual assault.

Police appealed for two women who were walking along Yorke Street towards Leeming Lane South at about the same time to contact them.

Det Sgt Neil Williams said: "These women could have vital information which could help us identify the person responsible for this attack.

"We would like to reassure them that they are not in trouble but would ask them to contact us as a matter of urgency.

"This is an isolated incident and we are following several lines of inquiry, including viewing CCTV footage from the area and speaking to other potential witnesses."
