Police team rescue man from river

A senior Derbyshire police officer has praised his team after a man was rescued from the River Derwent.

The man was seen falling in to the water near Meadow Road in Derby on Sunday morning and he drifted downstream close to Pride Park.

Officers and a force helicopter were alerted. When the man was found an officer waded out to grab him.

The 49-year-old man is recovering in hospital. Supt Gary Parkin said the operation was "a great team effort".

Supt Parkin said: "The prompt action of officers and staff clearly saved this man's life.

"The river was fast-flowing and dangerous and it was a great team effort by all concerned."
