More support for eating disorders

A new service has been set up to help young people with anorexia and bulimia in Nottinghamshire.

Those aged up to 18 will be able to get support at clinics in Mansfield, Newark and Bassetlaw.

The clinics will offer one-to-one sessions with a psychiatrist and dietician to help manage the disorder.

Patients will also have access to a specialist mental health worker, an art therapist and group family therapy sessions.

'Best care'

The service could be rolled out to the rest of the county next year.

Paul Farrell from Nottinghamshire Healthcare NHS Trust said: "The Eating Disorder service teams will work closely with all other children's services.

"This includes supporting transition into adult mental health services or more intensive treatment where required to provide the best possible care for the young people and their families."

Eating disorders affect seven girls in every 1,000, and one boy in every 1,000.
