Chicken giblets spilled over road

One of the busiest roads into Nottingham was closed for several hours after a tonne of chicken giblets spilled on to the carriageway.

A major clear-up operation on the A46 at Saxondale Island was hampered as motorists drove through the spillage, spreading it across the carriageway.

Highways officials at the scene described the spillage as "greasy offal and intestines".

The offal spilled from a lorry in the early hours.
