Priest chosen as Queen's Chaplain

A priest from Nottingham has been appointed as a chaplain to the Queen.

Rev Canon Ruth Worsley will continue to be priest-in-charge of St Christopher's church in Sneinton, but will also take up honorary duties.

It is thought they will involve preaching at St James' Palace in London once a year.

A statement from Buckingham Palace read: "The Queen has been pleased to appoint the Reverend Canon Ruth Worsley to be a Chaplain to Her Majesty."

She succeeds Rev Canon John Sykes.

Mrs Worsley said: "I think what I have to do is I go on a rota of 36 chaplains who are expected to preach once a year at St James' Palace."

She was appointed as area dean of Nottingham North in 2006 and also represents the clergy of the diocese on the Church of England's General Synod.
