Man accused of grandfather murder

A 29-year-old man has appeared in court accused of murdering his grandfather and trying to murder his grandmother in Nottingham.

John McGrath, 81, and 83-year-old wife Mabel were found with stab wounds by police at their home in Thorpe Close, Stapleford, on Friday evening.

William Barnard was remanded in custody after appearing before Nottingham magistrates.

Mrs McGrath is said to be in a stable condition in hospital.

Mr Barnard is due to appear before Nottingham Crown Court on 10 August.
