Planning boss in court over rape

The former head of planning at a council in Nottinghamshire has appeared in court charged with rape.

Michael Evans, 54, of Halam Road, Southwell, is accused of assaulting a 27-year-old woman in Camden, London on 26 March.

He was remanded on bail by magistrates in Derby until 14 October when he is due to appear at Derby Crown Court.

The former planning boss at Newark and Sherwood District Council spoke only to confirm his name and address.

The council confirmed on Wednesday Mr Evans had left his post by "mutual agreement".
