Motorbike safety campaign begins

A road safety campaign has got under way in Nottinghamshire to help cut the number of motorbike accidents across the county.

Police will use unmarked patrol cars and handheld detection equipment to catch bikers speeding excessively.

The aim is to encourage motorcyclists to ride safely and responsibly.

Ch Insp Andy Charlton said: "Over the last few years we have seen that speed plays a significant factor in road collisions."

He added: "We have also had complaints from local people, particularly in rural communities, about people travelling at dangerous speeds."

Nottinghamshire Police said bikers account for a quarter of fatalities on the county's roads.
