Police oppose boxing nights plans

Rock City
Rock City has hosted top music acts since the 1980s

Police have opposed plans for a Nottingham city centre music venue to host boxing and wrestling nights.

Rock City on Talbot Street has applied to the city council to change its licence so that it can stage different kinds of events.

The club opened in 1980 and top bands including Iron Maiden, Nirvana and Ozzy Osbourne have played there.

Police have objected, saying the move could lead to an increase in crime and disorder in the area.

The city council will consider the application on 9 July.
