Pensioner battered wife to death

A Nottinghamshire pensioner who battered his wife to death with a table lamp has been detained indefinitely under the Mental Health Act.

Arthur Carr, 81, hit his 78-year-old wife Eunice over the head up to eight times, fracturing her skull, Nottingham Crown Court was told.

Carr killed her at their home in Nether Langwith in May 2008.

At an earlier hearing he was deemed unfit to plead and has been given an indefinite hospital order.
