Thieves take racing car engines

Thieves have stolen three racing car engines worth more than £35,500 from a workshop on a small Nottinghamshire industrial estate.

The owner and a mechanic were working on a vehicle in a rear yard at Newark Engines, Great North Road, Sutton on Trent on 20 June when it happened.

Pc Tony Hayes from Nottinghamshire Police said: "The mechanic heard a noise but thought nothing of it.

"When they returned the property had been stolen."

He added: "The engines were on pallets in the entrance area to the garage by reception.

"The door had been left closed but unlocked."

The engines are for Lotus racing cars and cannot be used for any other purpose.
