Teenage pupil stabbed in lesson

A 14-year-old boy is in hospital after being stabbed during a lesson at a Nottinghamshire school, police have said.

Police were called to South Wolds Community School in Keyworth at around 1045 BST on Thursday.

The wounded boy is in Nottingham's Queen's Medical Centre. His injury is not thought to be life-threatening and his condition is said to be stable.

Another boy, also aged 14, was arrested and was due to be questioned by police.

Officers do not believe the weapon, thought to be a chisel, had been brought into the school.

A school spokesman said everyone's thoughts and concerns were with the injured boy and his family.

Letters were sent to parents saying the police and the county council had advised that there was no need to close the school as there was no further threat to the safety of students and staff.
