Crossing call after crash death

The son of a Nottinghamshire woman killed by a drink driver is calling for a crossing at the spot where she died.

Hilda Jepson, 88, was hit by a car near her home in Huthwaite, on 17 May.

Ray Jepson has organised a petition calling for a Pelican crossing on Sutton Road, which has attracted more than 2,500 signatures so far.

Lee Pell, 24, of Church St West, Pinxton, admitted causing the death of Mrs Jepson while under the influence of alcohol. He will be sentenced in June.

Mr Jepson said the reaction from officials had been good.

"I have spoken to the council and they seemed quite positive.

"I have arranged a meeting with the highways department to discuss what we want and what can be done."

The family have also set up a Facebook page in memory of Mrs Jepson which has over 1,500 friends.
