Murder case man 'unfit to plead'

A 82-year-old will not stand trial for the murder of his wife as he is unfit to plead, a Nottingham judge has ruled.

Arthur Carr was remanded in custody after the body of his wife, Eunice Carr, 77, was found on 28 May 2008.

She was found face down in bed with serious head injuries at their house in Langwith Lodge Drive, Nottinghamshire.

After examination by neurology and geriatric experts, both the defence and prosecution at Nottingham Crown Court agreed that Mr Carr was unfit to plead.

Judge John Milmo, QC, ordered a further psychiatric report and adjourned the case to a date in July when it is likely a hospital order will be made.

Mr Carr, who did not attend the hearing, will continue to be detained in a secure psychiatric hospital in Northamptonshire, the judge ruled.
