Motorists warned over M1 delays

Motorists are being warned to expect delays during work to demolish a farm bridge over the M1 in Nottinghamshire.

A five-mile (8km) stretch of the M1, between junctions 25 and 26, will be closed overnight on 17 January to allow the work to take place.

The demolition is part of a project to widen the motorway to four lanes between the two junctions.

The 100-tonne bridge is too narrow to accommodate the expanded road - and will be replaced by a new one.

Diversions will be in place between 2100 GMT on 17 January until 0900 GMT on 18 January.

Farmer Timothy Godber said the lack of a bridge will mean a two-mile detour and going over a neighbour's field to get to his land.

Highways Agency manager Paul Tully said eight mechanical breakers will be used to pull down the bridge.
