Men are jailed over beating death

Three men have been jailed for fatally injuring a man in a beating on a Nottingham street.

Scott Hatherley, of Denstone Road, Nottingham, who denied attacking Shaun Lobb, 40, in Netherfield, on 10 October 2007, was sentenced to six years.

Craig MacGregor, 19, of no fixed abode and Liam Perry, 20, of Pinewood Gardens, Nottingham, admitted the attack and were both given four years.

Mr Lobb never regained consciousness and died nine days after the attack.

High on drugs

During the trial at Leicester Crown Court, the jury heard how Mr Lobb, a self-employed painter and decorator, had been walking home along Victoria Road in Netherfield in October 2007.

MacGregor, who had been high on drink and drugs at the time, shouted abuse at him from a car window.

The court heard that Mr Lobb flicked his fingers at him, after which MacGregor got out of the car and punched him in the head.

Hatherley, who was riding his BMX bike along the road, joined in the attack before Mr Lobb managed to escape, the jury was told.

The victim was then punched in the face by Perry, who was also riding a BMX, and the blow knocked him to the ground, where he hit his head on the pavement.
