Ruby told her family she wanted to donate her organs for transplant

A Leicestershire student who died from meningitis donated some of her organs for transplant, her family said.

Ruby Nagra, 18, from Kirby Muxloe, died six weeks into the first year of her education and psychology course at Nottingham Trent University.

She died on 14 November soon after she contracted a severe form of the infection.

In the hours after Ruby's death, her heart, one lung, liver and kidneys were given to patients for transplants.

Her family confirmed to the BBC she wanted her organs to go to people who needed them, should anything happen to her.

A spokeswoman for Nottingham Trent University said: "We were extremely saddened to hear of this death and our thoughts are with the family and friends at this very sad time."

The family said they wanted to thank the doctors and nurses who treated Ruby.

They added that Ruby had loved her student life.
