Fair link probed over 1983 murder

Workers at a Leicestershire fair could hold the key to solving the murder of schoolgirl 25 years ago, police said.

Collette Aram, 16, was raped and strangled near her home in Keyworth, Nottinghamshire, in October 1983.

Police have said people employed at a Loughborough fair could have information about casual staff who were moving around the area at the time.

More than 100 calls and hundreds of swabs have been taken since a DNA profile of the killer was recovered.

Det Insp Karen Pearson explained the possible link between events in Nottinghamshire and the fair in Leicestershire.

"The Goose Fair occurred in October and the fair then dismantled and small fairs go to different areas - one of which is Loughborough," she said.

"We are looking at all different types of people that would be travelling in Nottinghamshire and one of the lines of enquiry is that hw maybe a casual worker at a number of places one of which maybe a fairground."

She also emphasised that this was just one of a number of lines of inquiry being followed.
