Rail delays during track upgrade

Train passengers on a stretch of the East Coast Mainline in the East Midlands are being advised to allow extra time for their journeys.

Network Rail is closing part of the line between Newark, Nottinghamshire and Grantham, Lincolnshire for maintenance work for two days.

A shuttle bus will operate and some services will be diverted through Lincoln, Network Rail said.

They will start on Saturday afternoon and will run until Sunday.

New track

Network Rail spokeswoman Rachael Blackman said passengers going to London are advised to travel from Grantham and those travelling north are advised to leave from Newark.

"Everything has a life expectancy and this area of track is coming to the end of that so we are installing some new track," she said.

National Express East Coast said some services between Scotland or North East England and London Kings Cross will be diverted via Lincoln.

Services from Leeds and the north will terminate at Newark Northgate and replacement coaches will be provided between Newark and Grantham.
