Soldier's father arranges concert

L/Cpl Paul Sandford died in June 2007

A Nottinghamshire man whose son died while fighting in Afghanistan has organised a concert in his memory.

L/Cpl Paul Sandford, 23, from Hucknall, had been serving with the first Battalion, the Worcestershire and Sherwood Foresters.

He was fatally wounded in the neck by enemy fire whilst trying to protect his colleagues in June 2007.

His father Terry Sandford arranged the concert to raise money for the charity Help for Heroes.

He said: "It's a bit of positive to come out of a bit of negative, getting this concert going, making people aware that there is Help for Heroes there, that's doing a lot of hard work behind the scenes, raising money for the boys who've gone out and fought for the country."

Local bands are performed at the event at Titchfield Park in Hucknall on Sunday afternoon.
