Local litter wardens offered help

Residents in Nottinghamshire are being offered help in keeping their neighbourhood tidy.

Rushcliffe Borough Council wants to expand a successful pilot where volunteers cleared up Keyworth.

The 25-strong team filled 31 bags with litter and decided where new bins were needed. The council provided safety equipment and collected the bags.

Now the authority is asking schools, individuals and businesses to come forward to co-ordinate local clean-ups.

Graham Tinsley who organised the Keyworth event said: "The day was very successful - we collected 31 bags of rubbish including lots of drinks cans and bottles, take-away cartons and sweet wrappers.

"We hope that by tidying up the worst areas that people will be less inclined to throw away their rubbish and will instead deal with it responsibly."

The council said its Streetwise team would provide equipment and advice for anyone registering a clean-up day.
