School pupils hit by safety fears

Part of a Nottinghamshire school has been forced to close over safety fears just a week before the start of the new academic term.

One block of the Bramcote Hills Upper School building was discovered to be structurally unsafe during routine refurbishment work.

Students will be taught in other areas at two partner schools.

The council has set aside £100,000 as an emergency measure and is arranging meetings with parents.

Pupils will be sent to Alderman White School and Language College, and Bramcote Park Business and Enterprise School.

Nottinghamshire County Council service director for learning and achievement, John Slater, said the authorities were working together to keep disruption to a minimum.
