Nine tenants evicted in crackdown

Nine tenants have been evicted from properties in Nottingham in a bid to cut crime, drug dealing and anti-social behaviour in the city.

Nottingham City Homes, which started proceedings to have them evicted, said a further 25 council tenants were now being investigated.

In one case, residents were found to be growing cannabis and were immediately served with an eviction notice.

The crackdown, named Operation Mojave, focussed on about 60 properties.

During the operation, 14 other tenancy breaches, including untidy gardens and keeping dogs without permission, were uncovered.

Chris Langstaff, chief executive of Nottingham City Homes, said: "We take an uncompromising stance to all aspects of drug dealing and anti-social behaviour.

"We will seek to evict anyone found with drugs in their property. Our tenants have made it very clear they want us to tackle crime and anti-social behaviour and cases like this show we are working hard to that end.

"We are sending a clear message to the small number of individuals who are involved with drugs that it will not be tolerated."
