Thousands attend gay pride event

The event aimed to celebrate gay rights

Thousands of people have turned up for this year's Nottingham Pride at the city's Arboretum Park.

The event on Saturday aimed to celebrate gay rights and civil partnerships and includes live entertainment by an Abba Tribute band.

It included a speech from the lord mayor of Nottingham.

Nottinghamshire Fire and Rescue service also set up a stall as part of a new recruitment drive, in an attempt to reach a wider section of the community.

A spokesman said: "We feel that we're got to be representative in terms of the communities that we serve.

"So (with) all the groups that are here today, if we can pass a message on that there may be an opportunity for those individuals within the fire service from whatever background... and they're interested we're more than willing to have that conversation."
