Cash boost for voluntary groups

Five voluntary groups in Nottinghamshire have received a cash boost from the county council.

The groups have been given a share of more than £125,000 to help them ensure adults, particularly older people, remain independent in their own homes.

Age Concern has been awarded about £55,000 and the Nottinghamshire Deaf Society has received about £12,400.

A befriending project and family centre in the county have also been given money.

Councillor Alan Rhodes, cabinet member for Adult Social Care and Health, said: "These grants represent vital funding for some crucial support services.

"They all play an important role in ensuring that as many people in the county as possible have the freedom and independence needed to live in the community."
