Plans for eco-town at ex-RAF base

Three landowners have formally submitted controversial proposals for an eco-town on a former RAF site in part of Nottinghamshire.

The homes would be built at the former RAF Newton base.

This is the latest in a long-running saga over how to best meet the housing needs of Nottinghamshire in the future.

The Crown Estate - and two other developers - have now written to councillors confirming their intention to build there.

The leader of Rushcliffe Council, Neil Clarke, said he was still opposed to the idea - unless there was significant investment in local roads, rail links and community facilities for Bingham.

He has demanded a meeting with ministers as soon as possible.
