Security change locks people out

Residents of a tower block in Nottingham have been locked out of their homes after the security system was changed.

Nottingham City Homes is improving security at blocks of flats all over the city.

Some residents at three blocks within the St Albans Road flat complex were unable to get in to their homes due to a "software glitch", City Homes said.

The firm apologised for the problem and said it would be fixed by Thursday.

The security upgrades at the St Albans Road flats included replacing wooden doors and frames with metal ones and improving the electronic door entry system.

City Homes said work started on 26 May, and as part of the process each home was given electronic door entry fobs.

Some flats did not receive the fobs. They were later delivered, but City Homes could not activate them.

Locked out

Resident Jerome Clarke said: "Not everybody got their keys, so obviously some people were stuck... I have not been able to get in sometimes."

Jordan Gunn, 28, another resident, said she was not informed about the plans to change the security system.

"We phoned up to tell them that no one can get in, but no one has done anything about it."

"My partner has been locked out several times. He has had to come round and throw pebbles at my window."

City Homes said all the tenants had been sent letters to explain what was going to happen.

Martin Valentine from Nottingham City Homes said: "We are terribly sorry for what has gone on... unfortunately one or two minor errors with the software and a few other problems have caused a few residents problems and we can only apologise for that."
