Demonstrators have gathered outside Nottingham Arena to protest against the Dalai Lama's visit.

His five-day conference, which includes teachings on Buddhism and the environment, is expected to be visited by thousands of people.

Pro-China demonstrators said the timing of his visit was insensitive.

Inside the arena, the Dalai Lama told the audience protesters followed him wherever he went and he was used to them.
