CCTV vehicles get £200,000 boost

Efforts to tackle anti-social behaviour in Nottingham have been given a boost by the city council who will spend more than £200,000 on special CCTV vehicles.

A brand new mobile CCTV vehicle will be bought for the neighbourhood policing project at a cost of £140,000.

A second vehicle will be upgraded with all the latest technology to bring it up-to-date.

In addition, the council will buy two rapid response vehicles for use by its community protection officers.

Command centre

Sgt Jez Ellis said being able to record footage in digital quality would be a big help.

"The importance of this is that we can go to public disorder incidents and get good CCTV evidence of what's happening," said Sgt Ellis.

"With the big, new vehicle, we can go to events such as Goose Fair and the Riverside Festival as it's a mobile command centre.

"Hopefully it will prevent some of the disorder but if it doesn't, we can record it and arrest people for it."
