Anti-crime week starts in village

Extra police officers are being drafted into a Nottinghamshire village over the next seven days as part of a move to tackle anti-social behaviour.

A police spokesman said the officers will be looking for street drinking, speeding, domestic abuse, housing problems and criminal damage.

Radcliffe on Trent has experienced higher than normal anti-social behaviour in the past 18 months.

The week-long campaign runs from 10 May until 17 May.

Crime reduction managers will carry out free home security checks during the week.

Inspector Jeff Haywood, police commander for Rushcliffe South, said: "The week of action is very much about responding to the needs of the community and one of the major concerns is underage drinking."

The week will also include surgeries with the local fire and rescue service and advice on how to avoid bogus callers.
