Police identify River Trent body

A body recovered from a Nottinghamshire river has been identified as a 20-year-old Newark man.

The body of Brian Junior Gibson, of Yorke Drive, Newark, was found in the water at Besthorpe Jetty on the River Trent on Tuesday morning.

Mr Gibson had been missing since 13 April when he was last seen close to the River Trent in Newark.

Police said they were investigating the circumstances surrounding the death and the events leading up to it.

His family said in a statement: "The last couple of weeks have been traumatic, emotional and very sad for us all. Although the outcome is not what we wanted, it is of some comfort to us that Brian has been found.

"Losing Brian has made this family incomplete. He was a mischievous, cheeky character. He had a big heart, lovely smile and would do anything for anybody, especially his family."

Results of a post-mortem examination, carried out at the Leicester Royal Infirmary on Tuesday, are expected later.
