Car cruiser's suspended jail term

An 18-year-old has been given a suspended jail term for car-cruising in a Nottinghamshire town.

Adam Barnfather from Mansfield Woodhouse was sentenced for breaching a previous injunction after being caught racing around Mansfield in October.

He now faces a 28-day jail term if he breaks the injunction again.

Last June police started a ban on "boy-racing" in the county, nationally the first of its kind, enabling officers to issue injunctions.

Speaking after the hearing at Nottingham magistrates court, Sgt Dean Greaves of Nottinghamshire Police said: "Obviously if he gets involved in car cruising whilst the injunction's in force, which is until 2009, then he potentially is going to go to prison for almost a month - which I think sends out a very, very strong signal."

So far the police have issued such 100 injunctions, and they said there was a definite fall in incident numbers.
